The Regional Minister for Employment Promotion and Equality, Elena Rivo, and the president of the "Consorcio para o Desenvolvemento de Aplicacións para a Xestión Universitaria" (CIXUG), Julio Abalde, signed today a collaboration agreement, where the Xunta will provide the universities with 75,000 euros to finance the services provided by them to entrepreneurs who want to carry out a technology-based business idea.

The Xunta de Galicia and the three Galician universities, through the Consorcio para o Desenvolvemento de Aplicacións para a Xestión Universitaria (CIXUG), agreed today, through the signing of a collaboration agreement, to promote technology-based entrepreneurship among the university community, taking advantage of the business potential of people dedicated to research and people with extensive knowledge of new technologies. With this partnership, both the Xunta and the universities seek to:

  • To promote and encourage the entrepreneurial culture and the innovative entrepreneurial spirit among the Galician University community.
  • Supporting and advising on business start-ups, as well as support for EBTIs.

With this convention, a total of 75,000 € will be provided to finance the services provided by the universities to entrepreneurs to make their ideas a reality. These entrepreneurs will receive support and advice in creating a business plan and launching technology-based business initiatives. These actions include, for example, informative talks in faculties, both in undergraduate and master's degree classes, as well as in institutions potentially interested in the programme, to promote entrepreneurial culture and technology-based initiatives; preparation of business plans and advice to entrepreneurial teams from the idea to the constitution of the company; meetings with research groups to identify research results and determine their business potential; support in the processing of the EBTIs; or technical support and advice for the implementation and start-up of projects.

The Universities and the Galician Ministry for the Promotion of Employment and Equality, through the CIXUG Consortium, have been cooperating for years and giving an impulse to these necessary actions to strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit in the Galician university environment, as well as to promote research, technology and employment.
