Last Friday afternoon, 20th October, took place in the GaiásTech of the Ciudad de la Cultura the resolution ceremony of the XVI edition of the Prize for the best University Project with an Open Source Licence organised by the Consorcio CIXUG, with the collaboration of the Agencia para la Modernización Tecnológica de Galicia (AMTEGA) and the GPUL association..

The first prize was won by Diego Barreiro Pérez with his project «Análise e implementación dun sistema de xeración automática de horarios mediante intelixencia artificial», which solves the problem of timetabling in universities. This work aims to achieve four main objectives:

  1. Identify and model the associated entities (subjects and classrooms, dependencies to centre, grades, etc.).
  2. Identify and model the constraints of the problem, which can be hard or soft depending on the level of restriction set.
  3. Define the problem using a flexible language that allows the incorporation of new constraints in a simple way.
  4. Display programme output through a graphical interface.

This recognition carries a financial endowment of 1,500 euros, which is provided by the CIXUG within the collaboration framework of the signed agreement with AMTEGA.

On the other hand, a second prize was awarded to Joaquín Solla Vázquez for his work «Simplex: aplicación móvil para la organización personal», in which a mobile application is developed to facilitate the task of organising personal tasks, as well as the management of events or routines. This second prize has an economic endowment of 750 euros, which are provided by the GPUL association, collaborating entity of this initiative and also framed in the collaboration agreement signed with AMTEGA.
