In one more year, the LibreCon became an indispensable reference event focused on free and open-source solutions in the technology sector.

The congress brought together more than 1000 professionals for two days at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao.

During the two days, more than 70 activities were held in different spaces: Inspiration Space, Open Space, Tech Space and Demo Space.

There was talk of the present, but above all of the future at LibreCon, as strategic issues were addressed, such as the future of the metaverse, the reality of cybersecurity, the immersive experiences being developed in the world of Web 3, tokenisation and its consequences in our daily lives, and the nascent quantum computing and computers of the future.

Among the list of speakers, we highlight Ignacio Cirac, one of the most awarded and internationally recognised Spanish scientists and one of the world's eminences in Quantum Computing; Luciano Belo, PhD in Computer Security and Formal Languages, who works in Switzerland on the Compilation of Programming Languages for Quantum Computing and Yaiza Rubio, Chief Metaverse at Telefónica.

Reinventing Openness was the motto of this edition. A declaration of intent that presents open technologies as the key to facing the tremendous technological challenge in all areas. It is organised by ESLE, the association of accessible technology and available knowledge companies in the Euskadi region, and My Public Inbox, the benchmark platform for improving the impact of public profiles on the Internet. It also has the institutional support of the Euskadi Government through the SPRI Group, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Bilbao City Council.

From CIXUG, and more specifically from the Open Source Office of the CIXUG Consortium, we had the opportunity to participate and attend this event of overwhelming importance for the open source sector that we are trying to promote with so much effort among our university community.

Here is a short video of the LibreCon 2022  experience.
