17/10/2022

A total of 4 finalists are in charge of presenting and defending their work to obtain the recognition of the best final degree or master's degree project with an open-source licence.

After the deadline, the jury reviewed the submitted projects and selected a total of 4 finalists, who will have to present and defend their projects and demonstrate why they deserve the accolade of "Award for the best open-licence PFC".

The finalists selected, in order of registration for the prize, are as follows:

  1. Alejandro Iregui Valcarcel
  2. Pedro Guijas Bravo
  3. Pablo Marino Boga
  4. Eliseo Bao Souto

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held as indicated below:

  • Date: Friday 21 October
  • Timetable: from 16:30 to 18:30
  • Location: GaiasTech

The winners will be selected after a presentation of the finalist projects to the jury. This presentation should last 10 minutes plus a round of questions. In addition, the presentation must include more or less the same aspects as those contained in the report submitted for the prize: specific aspects of the project, mainly those related to the choice of the open source licence, the use of community work tools, the dissemination and creation of a community, the reusability of the project, etc.

The jury will take the following aspects into account when making its decision:

  • Quality of the project: design and implementation.
  • Level of public activity of the PFC: the continuous publication of the work will be valued, either using the mailing lists of an existing project, those of the "mancomun" forxa or any other web media, such as personal blogs; the collaboration with other free software projects; the correct choice of a free licence...

The CIXUG announces this award as part of the activities included in the collaboration agreement with AMTEGA, which aims to improve the mechanisms for training and dissemination of open-source software in the Galician university ecosystem.

GPUL's collaboration is also part of the activities carried out under the collaboration agreement signed with the AMTEGA to promote open-source software in Galicia.
