On 12 and 13 May, a new edition of the esLibre congress took place in Zaragoza, where many people with a common interest in open-source culture and technology met.

The event took place in the classrooms of the Etopia building, the Art and Technology Centre of Zaragoza, and was hosted by the Vitalinux and Migasfree communities in this new knowledge meeting.

During the two days, there were more than 100 talks and workshops in which people could learn first-hand about a large number of open-source services and technologies, ranging from the academic and educational environment to a business environment with solutions for a multitude of needs. Workshops on LibreOffice, OpenStreetMap, Nextcloud, and Slimbook laptop repair were part of the long list of activities with a more practical and demonstrative character.

Several speakers travelled from our community to participate in the talks and workshops, such as Jorge Lama, Alex and Miguel Rodríguez, Cristian López, Laura Castro, and colleagues from Enxeñaría Sen Fronteiras. All the sessions were recorded and will be available in the coming weeks on Wikimedia, as was the case with previous editions.

For the next edition in 2024, applications have been submitted from Valencia and Tenerife, and the winning venue will be announced in the coming months.

esLibre is defined as a meeting of people interested in open-source technologies, which begins with its first edition in 2019 at the University of Granada. It appeared as a need to fill a gap left by other meetings that had already disappeared, such as the HispaLinux congresses. In 2020 and 2021 they had a virtual format, the first one hosted by the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and the one in 2021 by the Complutense University of Madrid. Last year it took place in Vigo, and this year it was organised in Zaragoza with the support of Vitalinux and Migasfree, with Librebit and Slimbook as main sponsors.
