Borja González wins second prize with his PyToxo project

On the afternoon of Friday, 22 October, took place in the Cidade da Cultura, the resolution ceremony of the XIV edition of the Prize for the best University Project with Free License organised by the CIXUG Consortium, with the collaboration of the Axencia para a Modernización Tecnolóxica de Galicia (AMTEGA)

A total of 4 applications reached this final phase, which were evaluated by the jury through their different presentations, and which took into account aspects such as the correct licensing of the works, as well as the use of their methodology, which especially characterises open works.

The first prize was awarded to Paloma Piot Pérez-Abadín, a student of the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering (MUEI) who presented her Master's thesis entitled «Automatic profiling of users for the early detection of mental disorders», in which she developed a system capable of automatically profiling users with applicability in the early detection of mental disorders. This recognition carries an economic endowment of 1,500 euros, provided by the CIXUG under the collaboration agreement signed with the AMTEGA.

In addition, a second prize was awarded to Borja González Seoane, also a student at the Faculty of Computer Science of the University of A Coruña, for his final degree project «PyToxo: a Python tool for calculating penetrance tables of high-order epistasis models», which presents a new implementation of the Toxo library, which introduced an innovative mathematical approach to state of the art, but which was developed for MATLAB. PyToxo is released under a free licence and uses the full power of the Python language. This second prize has an economic endowment of 750 euros, which is provided by the GPUL association, a collaborating entity of this initiative and also framed in the collaboration agreement signed with AMTEGA.
